Stephen E. Gibson studied Languages and Linguistics at the Georgetown University in Washington from 1966 to 1970, Art History at the University of Madrid in Madrid, Painting and Sculpture at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston from 1973 to 1977. First solo exhibition in Boston in 1978. Gibson has been drawing and painting since childhood.
