Despite his prodigious talent and his association with Bob Mizer's Physique Pictorial magazine, his work is relatively unknown. The important anthology "Hard Boys" contains many drawings never published before. Largely self-taught, he was skilled in a number of styles, his homoerotic art is funny, colorful and gorgeous. Bush started out as a military man, first in the navy then in the air force and finally behind a desk at the Pentagon.
At 40 (spending all those years in the closet) he retired from his military career and moved
in the early 1960s to Los Angeles where physique photographer Bob Mizer discovered his drawings and began publishing them in Physique Pictorial magazine. It was Mizer who introduced Bush to the LA gay scene; Bush is quoted as saying that he had never been across the pond and pursued an out-of-the-closet lifestyle at all. He has never took proper care of his drawings. which were published as well as by Physique Pictorial, by Mr. Sun, Stroke, Drmmer and Touch. "Hard Boys" has been released by Green Candy Press in 2007.
