The British group was formed by vocalist Holly Johnson, Paul Rutherford, cousins Mark and Jed O'Toole rezspectevely on bass and guitar, Peter Gill on drums. The group quickly dissolved due to internal disputes and to the flop of "Liverpool" (1986), but they left one great album "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" (1984) and an unforgettable and controversial "Relax". "Relax" was their debut single from ZTT Records in 1983 reaching the top of best-selling singles in U.K. and in U.S. The official video was directed by Bernard Rose and was banned by MTV and the BBC, pushing production to make a second video with the groupperforming on a stage but was never transmitted in any music program at the time.

In "Back soon" director Rob Williams explores the attraction between two straight men who unexpectedly fall in love. Logan is mourning the loss of his wife Adrienne and wants to sell their home, every room has painful memories of their life together. Matthew, a gay reformed drug dealer who has suffered a near-death experience, decides to purchase it. The two men become friendly and hang out together a lot. They share a strange connection but we don't know what it is yet. One night, Logan's car breaks down and he spends the night on Guillermo's couch. Logan dreams that his wife is inviting him to their former bedroom and stumbles into Guillermo's bed. But, rather than kick Logan out of the room, Guillermo returns his kiss and they make love. The next morning Logan doesn't want to talk about it and flees. Logan returns a few days later with a pizza and, in perhaps the film's best scene, they sit on opposite ends of Guillermo's couch and awkwardly try to figure out what's going on. "It was weird, but... good, wasn't it?" Logan asks. "Why don't we just eat," Guillermo finally says, "and see what happens." Oddly enough, love blossoms between them but then the film takes a really weird turn at Alburquerque for its last act, entering the realms of the spiritual and the metaphysical as we learn the real reason for their attraction. Do you remember "Ghost"?. Director and actors try to make it works and we appreciate their effort. Yet "Back soon" is a very nicely acted and filmed, the two leads are terrific together; they beautifully conveyed their confusion, their awkwardness, and finally their complete surrender to the situation that they have found themselves in. You will be charmed by watching these two attractive men fall believably in love. "Back soon" has been produced by TLA Releasing in 2007 and won the Alternative Spirit Award Grand Prize for best GLBT film at the 2007 Rhode Island International Film Festival; other films directed by Rob Williams are famous "Long-term relationship", "3-day weekend", "Role/Play". “Cruising” has always been a part of gay culture; the word itself is a code, innocuous to outsiders, but representing an incognito hunt for sexual partners to those in the know. Over the years, men with particular desires found spaces—certain parks, public restrooms, and roadside wooded groves—out of sight and yet in plain view, where they could meet, and with the use of silent signals and cues, pair off for intimate encounters. It is these spots, nationwide, and the men making use of them, that Chad States photographs in "Cruising" dragging them into the light of the public eyes. The images are beautiful, hypnotic and suspended in a timeless space. Chad States earned a BA from Evergreen State College and an MFA from Tyler School of Art in 2007 with an interesting thesis on the concept of masculinity (see 10.5.09). States was an Artist in Residence at Light Work in the summer of 2009 and received the Emerging Artist Fellowship for the Delaware Division of the arts in 2008. His work has been exhibited nationwide including New York, Seattle, Philadelphia, among others, and are part of permanent collections. States currently lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Published by powerHouse Books on November 2011, Cruising has a hardcover, 100 pages, 80 full color pictures, 12.25 x 9.75 size, $45.00 price. You can buy it at Amazon.
