Jean Rustin is born in Montigny-les-Metz, France, in 1928; at the age of 19 he moved to Paris and studied at the School of Fine Arts. Initially Rustin was an abstract painter but from the 1970's he embarked on figuration creating a bizarre and enigmatic world of human figures who inspire death, fright, pity and relief. The figurative work of Jean Rustin is relatively little known while his abstract paintings had a large success in France. The first important solo exhibition was in Paris in 1959, then he exposed in Belgium, Germany, London, Brazil, Athens, Chile, Holland. His works are in public galleries and museums in Germany, Algeria, at the British Museum in London, Cambridge, Brazil, Princeton Art Museum, Washington, at the New Orleans Art Museum, at the Centre National d'Art Contemporain in Paris.http://www.rustin.be/
