The city of Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia and was
founded in 1616. In the 19th century the city was a dynamic commercial
centre, playing a major part in the gold and coffee industry. It was the
first city to take part in the Industrial Revolution which resulted in
the installation of railroads and textile industry. This eventually grew
into a large fashion industry, making Medellin the fashion centre of
Colombia. There is a lot of beauty to be found in Colombia, so it is no
surprise that beauty is the main source of inspiration for photographer German Velasquez.
Having studied advertising in Medellin, German discovered the power of
photography and decided to move to New York where he studied the art at
the NYC School of Visual Arts. But loyal to his country and culture, he
returned after his studies to his hometown Medellin and opened here his
own studio.
