Come sempre, questo genere di immagini appare vagamente assurdo (ma quanto intrigante!), sappiamo che era l'unica maniera per aggirare la censura; l'unico modo per mostrare due uomini seminudi insieme.

Robert W. Richards ha avuto una grande carriera com illustratore per giornali, case d'alta moda come Yves Saint-Laurent e Gaultier, e aziende produttrici di cosmetici, prima di iniziare a disegnare uomini per note riviste gay degli anni '70 come 'Stallion', 'Honcho' e 'Palyguy'. Buona parte di questo lavoro, andato avanti per quattro decenni, è diventata nel 2003 una mostra importante intitolata "Gods of Erotica" presso la Leslie-Lohman Foundation di New York. 
Richards ha lavorato per anni anche per le riviste 'The Advocate' e 'Mandate'. 
Nato nel 1941 a Sanford, nella zona rurale del Maine, prima dei vent' anni era già a Boston a disegnare cataloghi per i negozi più in vista della città. Ma New York lo stava aspettando, l' unicacittà possibile. Richards ha lavorato su ogni genere di illustrazione, dall' alta moda al porno, dai libri supereconomici alle copertine di dischi; per 25 anni ha disegnato e intervistato le stelle del cinema gay porno e 
di Hollywood con uno stile unico che unisce l' illustrazione glamour dgli anni '50 ai primi artisti 'fetish' come Tom of Finland. 
Bruno Gmunder ha pubblicato nel 2006 una splendida antologia; "Allure" ha 96 pagine, formato 18x24 cm, prezzo 22,95 Euro. 
Robert W. Richards had a successful career as a freelance illustrator for newspapers, haute couture fashion designers as Yves Saint-Laurent, Valentino, Gaultier, and cosmetic companies before he started drawing men for 70's famous gay magazines as Stallion, Honcho, and Playguy. 
This body of work, spanning four decades, became a successful exhibition, entitled "Gods of Erotica" at the Leslie-Lohman Gay Art Foundation in New York's Soho in 2003. Richards has also worked for years for 'Advocate' and 'Mandate' mags. 
Born in 1941 in Sanford, Maine, before 20 he was already in Boston doing display and layout work for the most brilliant shops. But New York was waiting for him, the only possible town. Richards have worked on every kind of drawing, from high fashion to porn, from pulp fiction to record covers; for 25 years he has been drawing and interviewing gay porn stars and 
Hollywood stars with his unique style which combines mid-century glamour illustrations with the early fetish gay artists as Tom of Finland. 
Bruno Gmunder has published in october 2006 a wonderful anthology; "Allure" has 96 pages, 7x9,5 inch format, 22,95 Euro.
