Jack Balas was born in Chicago in the late 1950 and since the seventies works as a painter and photographer focusing on metaphoric images of the human form. B.F.A. in 1978 and M.F.A. in 1981 at the Northern Illinois University. 
His paintings are in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Tucson Museum of Art. Photos have been published in "Male Nude Now" and "Blue". 
On Blurb he has released two monographs. Solo exhibitions from 1987 in Los Angeles, Basel, Barcelona, 
New York, Dallas, Chicago. Balas lives and works in Tucson and Denver, he is one of the most interesting and indomitable artists in the last 30 years.
