Douglas Juleff (Douglas of Detroit, vedi 9.1.11) ha incominciato fotografando i bodybuilders più noti di Detroit, molti dei quali si allenavano alla famosa palestra Yacos di George Yacos, vecchio amico di Douglas. Le fotografie di atleti, sollevatori di peso, wrestlers e bodybuilders vengono sempre più pubblicate dalle riviste 'physique' nazionali e Douglas diventa in breve tempo uno dei più apprezzati autori nel periodo d'oro della fotografia beefcake. Lavora per "Your Physique", "Strenght and Health", "The Body Builder"; appare su "Physique Pictorial" di Bob Mizer, su "Adonis" e "Body Beautiful" riviste che hanno avuto una minore diffusione ed erano prodotte nei primi anni '50 da Joe Weider, uno dei principali artefici della grande diffusione del bodybuilding moderno. Il grande talento di Douglas contribuì a dare maggiore notorietà a molti bodybuilders professionisti e modelli physique come Jim Park (Mr. America 1952), Bob Delmonteque (il modello più fotografato da Douglas e quello di maggior successo tra tutti i modelli beefcake), Vic Seipke (Mr. Michigan 1951, le sue fotografie furono le più vendute di Douglas of Detroit), Al Walsh, Stan Stanczyk, Dick Buchkolz.
Douglas Juleff (Douglas of Detroit, see also 9.1.11) soon began photographing Detroit’s premier bodybuilders, many of whom worked out at the famed Yacos Gym operated by Douglas' longtime friend George Yacos. The photographs of these lifters and athletes helped establish Douglas as one of the most talented of the numerous photographers working during the golden age of physique photography. Douglas’ images were featured frequently in "Your Physique", "Strength and Health", "The Body Builder" and other physique magazines, also in early issues of Bob Mizer's "Physique Pictorial" and the smaller Joe Weider physique publications of the early 1950s, "Adonis" and "Body Beautiful". Douglas' fame as a physique photographer also helped the careers of many competitive bodybuilders and popular physique models, including Jim Park (Mr. America 1952); Bob Delmonteque, who became Douglas’ most photographed model and the most financially succesfull of all beefcake models; Vic Seipke (Mr. Michigan 1951, whose photo sales generated more of Douglas’ income than any other single model). Among his other popular models were Stan Stanczyk, Al Walsh, Dick Buchholz (Mr. Michigan 1949), Leo Maryck (Mr. Michigan 1947), Bill Hooper and Tom Talbott.
