Il manga Bara ('rosa'), noto anche come 'amore degli uomini', è la definizione giapponese per i manga creati da e per gay. Il genere è iniziato negli anni '60 con riviste fetish che contenevano disegni e fumetti gay ed è un fenomeno essenzialmente giapponese, ha grandi difficoltà a trovare editori europei e americani ma, prima o poi, uscirà dal Giappone. Il manga bara raffigura uomini virili variamente muscolosi o sovrappeso e pelosi, genere 'beefcake' o 'orsi'; è spesso violento, a volte romantico, generalmente più realistico di altri tipi di manga. The bara genre began in the 1960s with fetish magazines featuring gay art and is mostly a Japanese phenomenon, it has great difficulties finding western publishers but, sooner or later, will come out of Japan. Bara features masculine men with varying degrees of muscle, body fat, and body hair, beefcakes or bears types; often it's violent, sometimes romantic, usually more realistic than other kinds of manga.
