history of male nude photography 144

Under the name Champion Studio, Walter James Kundzicz (born 1925) has become one of the great pioneers of physique photography. His innovative vision was absolutely unique when he started in late 50's; unlike the oiled and not credible demigods who graced the pages of the popular magazines of the day (Strength and Health, Muscle Power, Tomorrow's Man, The Young Physique and others), Champion's handsome young models were a new breed. They were less competitive bodybuilders and more like the bad-boys-next-door that viewers secretly wanted to sneak a peak of in the locker room. Kundzicz's images were simple and iconoclastic in their use of costumes and vivid color, in heavy contrast to most of the physique photography available at that time. At its peak in the mid-1960's, Kundzicz launched and published his own magazines, Big and Go Guys, expanding and strengthening the Champion brand.
