Born in Cleveland in 1941, after serving in the U.S. Navy Rick Herold studied art at the Academie Julian in Paris and travelled Europe for three years. With a scholarship at the Benedectine Monastic University of St. John in Minnesota he majored in Theology and Art, then received a Master of Fine Arts at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Upon graduation Herold started to work for several churches doing architectural art. After a disillusion with the Religious Establishment Herold turned to paint nudes, came out gay and met his life-partner. First exhibition with a large success in Los Angeles then San Francisco, Cork (Ireland), New York, San Diego. Now Herold works in his gallery/studio in San Diego.http://www.rickherold.com/
