"Un chant d'amour" was directed by novelist, playwright and criminal Jean Genet (1910-1986) in 1950. The experimental short film (25 minutes, silent) about the relationship between two prisoners and a voyeuristic guard, is the only film made by Jean Genet (1910–1986), who explored new extremes of human experience in novels like Our Lady of the Flowers and plays like The Balcony. The prisoners are in complete isolation, separated by brick walls, and desperately in need of human contact, devise a most unusual kind of communication and dream about each other. "A song of love" is a milestone in the gay culture and has inspired dozens of artists and directors. It is a deeply romantic film where passion and homoerotism become a universal and trascendent love.
