Andrè Durand was born in Ottawa, Canada, in 1947; graduated from l' Ecole de Beaux Arts in Montreal. Influenced by artists such as Rubens, Titian, Michelangelo and Velasquez, is best known for his allegorical portraits achieving international acclaim for the official portrait of John Paul II and Dalai Lama. It is nevertheless Durand's extraordinary mythological narratives that demonstrate his profound understanding of the myths and rituals of both classical and christian tradition. Exhibitions in London, Santa Barbara, California, Toronto.
