Ohm Phanphiroj began his professional career as an artist and photographer in 1997, graduated in filmmaking at Georgia State University; after producing some short films,
Ohm chooses photography, which he found suited him more than filmmaking. With his first series, “Strangers in the Night”, Ohm won Photo district news award three consecutive years from 1999-2001. His work has generated great interest from galleries, magazines, and private collectors and won many awards. In 2000 Ohm completes his second Masters in Film at Georgia State University and a graduate degree in photography at the world renowned Rochester Institute of Technology; moves to New York City and appears in many publications, including Interview, Harper’s Bazaar, Wallpaper, Men’s Health, Cleo, Out, Genre, Esquire, Blue, Travel and Leisure, Mate, and Pref. From 1997 to 2000 he is international fashion director of Esquire magazine, and is currently Fashion and Creative Director of Qr magazine and a correspondent for Mate magazine, Germany. His second photo book,
Rare Views, is named one of the best photo books of 2006 by Out magazine. Monographs published include Rough Stuff, Rare Views, and Night Hawks, Ohm’s work is also featured in four anthologies: Visions,
Mien Schwules Auge 7, Night Visions, and Nerve Photo Book.
