What is nudism? It's a complicated question. Nudism as a lifestyle was born in Germany in the early 1900's; exposing the skin to the sun was considered healthy, invigorating and masculine. It also had an aspect that interests this blog (see also 10.3.09): the health magazines that come in that period show pictures of naked men, in addition to the socially accepted "artistic" nude images, the male nude conquests another opportunity. The scientific interest towards nudity had rather short life, it was soon forgotten with the arrival of the tragedy of World War II. Actually nudism has many forms, it is also a way to assert the rights and freedom of existence of LGBT people. Mitch Hightower and Philip Buchan photograph all famous nudist events as Gay Prides, Naked Rides, Folsom Fairs, Nudity Fairs and funny "flash mob" events organized by BNIP (Buck Naked In Public), a crazy group born on the Net. Mitch and Philip have published two books at Blurb, "Nude Beach Men. Naked on the beaches of Northern California", a collection of photographs taken of more than 15 models at 8 Northern California nude beach locations, February 2008, 120 pages, softcover edition $27,95, and "Bucknaked Downtown. Volume one" which features five male exhibitionists walking nude through San Francisco on a busy saturday afternoon, July 2008, 120 pages, softcover edition $23,95.
